Sacramento – The Automotive Service Councils Educational Foundation (ASCEF) proudly announces that its Board of Trustees has awarded 34 scholarships to 21 outstanding students, totaling $28,000 in support for their automotive education. These scholarships, which have grown from a single donation into fully funded awards named after influential ASCCA members and leaders, reflect ASCEF’s ongoing commitment to the future of the automotive industry. 

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are honored to carry on the tradition of empowering the next generation of automotive professionals,” said John Eppstein, Foundation Chair. “Each scholarship is an investment in the innovation, skill, and passion that will continue to drive the automotive sector forward. Supporting these students is not only about education—it’s about building a stronger, more sustainable future for the industry.” 

The ASCEF’s Cars4Careers program plays a central role in funding these opportunities, converting donated vehicles into training and education for individuals pursuing careers in automotive service and repair. Each year, ASCEF awards scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 to high school graduates entering technical training and college undergraduates studying automotive service disciplines. Since its founding in 1998, ASCEF has awarded $257,250 in scholarships. 

“We’re excited to welcome these students into the ASCEF family,” said David Kusa, ASCEF President. “Their drive and enthusiasm show that the future of our industry is in great hands. This year’s applicants and recipients truly represent the best and brightest in automotive education.” 

The 2026 scholarship application opens in October, and we encourage all those to apply by March 31, 2026.

Through its successful Cars4Careers program, ASCEF turns donated cars into education and training for individuals wanting a career in the automotive service industry. Each year, ASCEF awards scholarships ranging from $500 – $1,000 to high school seniors who plan to enroll in post-high school technical/academic training or college undergraduates in the automotive service field. Since the establishment of the Foundation in 1998, ASCEF has awarded $202,250 in scholarships.

“These scholarships are designed to help support the next generation of technicians and address the technician shortage facing our industry,” said David Kusa, ASCEF President. “Judging from the winners and the rest of our applicants, it’s clear to see our industry has a bright future.”

The 2023 scholarship application opens in October, and we encourage all those to apply by March 31, 2024.

The Automotive Service Councils Educational Foundation is Sad to Announce the Passing of Trustee Dick DeLoach

To honor his memory, the ASCCA created the Dick DeLoach Memorial Fund.

SACRAMENTO – The Automotive Service Councils Educational Foundation (ASCEF) is sad to announce the passing of Trustee Dick DeLoach. In honor of his memory, ASCCA members created the Dick DeLoach Memorial Fund to commemorate Dick’s long career in the automotive industry and his dedication as a Trustee to the ASCEF.

If you would like help honor Dick’s memory, please consider donating to this scholarship fund. You can donate by sending a check and note the Dick DeLoach Memorial Fund to the ASCCA office at 1 Capitol Mall, Suite 800, Sacramento, CA 95814. ASCEF’s goal is to reach $10,500 in donations by December 31.

“Dick was a leader in the automotive community and an integral part of the ASCEF Board of Trustees – he will be missed,” said Chair of ASCEF John Eppstein. “I’m proud to have a scholarship that will not only honor his commitment, but also continue to support young professionals through this fund.”
