Become a Trustee

Interested in Becoming a Trustee? Here are a few things you should know:

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the ASC Educational Foundation. To be eligible to join the board, candidates must support the mission, vision, and core values of ASCEF.

Why Become a Trustee?

Being a trustee is incredibly rewarding. As a trustee you have the chance to support and shape the work and strategic direction of the ASC Educational Foundation. Every year, you get the opportunity to award scholarships to students pursuing a career in the automotive aftermarket industry and help further them along in their educational goals.

Responsibilities

Board members are encouraged to attend a minimum of 50% of ASCEF hosted events or activities each year and required to attend all quarterly meetings. Activities may include ceremonies or celebrations with scholarship recipients, informative presentations about ASCEF to groups or chapters of ASCCA, working at the ASCEF info table at a conference, or by visiting an ASCCA chapter shop night on behalf of ASCEF. Board members may be asked to participate in special projects that involve outreach, such as donor satisfaction and retention.

Board members may be asked to assist in the development of policies or procedures for the organization, act as Reviewer at the time of selection of scholarship recipients, or participate in other ways to further the mission of supporting careers in the automotive industry. Selection

Ten of the Trustees are selected from a slate of candidates nominated by the Board of Trustees of the ASC Educational Foundation and approved by a vote of the Board of Directors of the Automotive Service Councils of California (ASCCA). If the ASCEF Board does not submit enough candidates or if the ASCCA Board does not approve enough of the slate to fill the Board of Trustees, the ASCCA Board of Directors will appoint Trustees to fill the vacancies. The eleventh Trustee, who also serves as the President, shall be the Executive Director of ASCCA or his/her designee.

The Board is currently looking for candidates who have experience in marketing, grant writing, and fundraising. Members of the ASCEF Board of Directors are not required to be members of the ASCCA in order to serve as on the ASCEF Board of Directors.

Number of Trustees

The Board of Trustees shall be no less than seven nor no more than eleven, who need not be residents of California. Trustee terms are staggered so that no more than four Trustees shall be appointed each year, as further defined in policy.

Term of Office

Each Trustee appointed by the ASCCA Board of Directors shall serve a three-year term commencing October 1 following the appointment.
